DST- STUTI Hands - ON Training held at Delhi Technological University

Department of Applied Physics, Delhi Technological University has organized DST sponsored week-long STUTI training programme on “Synthesis Methods and Characterizations of Materials and Biomolecules” in association with Jamia Hamdard (DST-PMU) from 16 th – 22 nd November 2022. The objective of this training programme was to provide Hands On training on XRD, FTIR, PE Hysteresis Loop, DSC, TGA, Fluorescent Microscopy, Flow Cytometry, Electro chemical Analyzer, Glove box, Ball milling and electrospinning, Absorption and Emission spectrometer, XPS and Gas phase synthesis system.

DST STUTI training program was inaugurated in the auspicious presence of Prof. (Dr.) Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard as a Chief Guest; Dr. Pratishtha Pandey, Head (R&D) Infrastructure, DST as a Guest of Honor; Prof Madhusudan
Singh, Registrar DTU; Prof. Pravir Kumar – Dean (International Affairs) and Head Department of Biotechnology DTU; Prof. Rinku Sharma – Dean PG and HOD of Applied Physics DTU; Prof. Suhel Parvez – Coordinator DST-STUTI PMU, Jamia Hamdard and Prof. Vinod Singh – Convener, DST – STUTI, DTU.

Prof. Rinku Sharma welcomed the distinguished guests, participants and all gathered for the function. Prof. M. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard stated that Jamia Hamdard was recognised as implementing agency for STUTI. The basic objective of DST is to inculcate science education in students so that more people will come to stream. The purpose of the programme is to train participants with the Science and Technology infrastructure in the country. He thanked DST for providing such a great programme which will benefit the Nation’s young budding scientists. Dr. Pratishtha Pandey also addressed the gathering and said that STUTI intends to build human resource and its knowledge capacity through open access S&T Infrastructure across the country which in turn helps in Nation building.

She wished the participants the very best and happy learning. Prof. Suhel Parvez elaborated on the DST- STUTI Programme and how it would benefit the young scientists. He told the participants of how due to their credentials they are one of the 30 participants and that they should take this training program seriously for their own benefits. Prof. Madhusudan Singh in his speech shared the ranking of DTU on national and international parameters and said that the ranking has been continuously improving. He also said that he was proud that even though the world was in the grip of the ongoing pandemic, DTU continued to deliver
the best in areas of education, research, innovation and extension activities.

Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Vinod Singh – Convener DST – STUTI, DTU. He thanked the distinguished guests, organising committee and the participants who have come from various parts of the country and wished that they benefit by the expert lectures and hands on training. The valedictory function was held on 22 November 2022 at DTU in the auspicious presence of Prof. Bodh Raj Mehta, Director (Research & Innovation), Jaypee University & Former Dean (R&D) and Professor IIT Delhi
as a Chief Guest. Prof. Vinod Singh, Convener of the DST-STUTI program has presented the summary report and said that 33 participants covering various parts of the country have been participated in this DST STUTI program. Participants are from 21 different institutions. In the STUTI, 14 Invited Talk were delivered by the prominent speakers.

Further the hands-on training was provided to the participants on XRD, FTIR, PE Hysteresis Loop, DSC, TGA, Fluorescent Microscopy, Flow Cytometry, Electro chemical Analyzer, Glove box, Ball milling and electrospinning, Absorption and Emission spectrometer, XPS and Gas phase synthesis system.

Department of Science and Technology initiated Synergistic Training Program utilizing the Scientific and Technological infrastructure (a two-fold program) to create awareness among school by means of short training and popular science events and capacity building training program for Scientists, Professors, Ph.D. Scholars and Post Doc Fellows involved in research areas for maximal utilization of the existing facilities in the country.

There are 13 Project Management Units and each PMU is organising 22 trainings throughout the year. Jamia Hamdard is one of the PMUs and the nodal centre. In collaboration with Jamia Hamdard PMU, Delhi Technological University has conducted Hand-On Training Programme on “Synthesis Methods and Characterizations of Materials and Biomolecules” during November 16-22, 2022.
